Mussel Farm

» Mussel Farm

The method used by our company is the method of hanging culture.

The mussels are grown on ropes, which hang down vertically into the water from floating barrels, linked with each other, forming lines of100 m long. These hanging cultures are independent of the tides and can also be used at great water depths with minimum distance of 5 m from the bottom and 2 m from the surface. With this hanging technique the lines are arranged horizontally and can hold between 7 to 11 tones of mussels.

The mussel species being cultivated in our facilities is Mytilus galloprovincialis which is particularly well suited to hanging culture and whose appearance is hardly distinguishable from the northern blue mussel.
